Why it matters

## Why mining requires a different playbook

Mines are not warehouses. They consume power at industrial-utility scale, they typically sit on constrained parts of the grid, they operate 24/7, and their capital allocation is scrutinised by boards to the third decimal place. That means a mining renewable strategy needs to combine multi-MW behind-the-fence generation, multi-MWh storage, and — often — a wheeled PPA overlay, all evaluated on a full lifecycle-cost basis.

### Baseload & scale

Mining loads are large, continuous and demand-heavy. Solar-only rarely moves the needle. The real case is integrated: solar + BESS + wheeling, sized against a full electricity budget.

### Grid-constraint exposure

Remote and constrained network locations create both risk (curtailment, unreliability) and opportunity (grid-serving generation). Solving both takes a properly resourced advisor.

### Decarbonisation reporting

Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets are increasingly hard-coded into offtake agreements and financing covenants. Renewable procurement is now a compliance driver, not just a cost driver.
